Education
School, school, school! That is all the jive around our house. Sarah is in second grade. Ethan is in seventh grade. Miranda is in tenth grade. Taylor is in twelfth grade. Homework, projects, reading, AP tests, ACT tests, reflections projects...the list is endless! Let me explain why education is the jive at our home. I remember when I was in twelfth grade! I had so much fun with my friends and was so excited about college. I come from a family of educators. I went to Utah State University after graduating from high school. There was very little break in my education. I graduated within three years in elementary education, having met Larry along the way! Larry also has educators in his family... his dad and two sisters. He did not graduate in education, however. He graduated in art with an emphasis in illustration. I began teaching when Taylor was 10 months old. I taught first grade for awhile. When I was on bed rest with little Sarah, I could not teach. So, I took a three year break. I missed teaching and cried the first time I sent Taylor and Miranda out the door to school and I did not go too! That is how attached I am to education. Well, when Larry was laid off from work, I received the chance to go back to teaching! I have taught third grade now for six years. During that time, I have been going to college as well. I have received my ESL endorsement, Masters of Education, and I am now working on my administrative license. Guess what Larry is doing now? Teaching art at a middle school! He went back to college and earned his teacher licensure. So, our children are surrounded by educators: Mom, Dad, Grandma Sharon, Grandpa Steve, Grandpa Moore, Aunt Marianne... We all think we know what is best for them. Most of the time we do. But, when are they supposed to enjoy twelfth grade like I did? I need to loosen up and give Taylor some time of his own, let him enjoy friends more often and fun. Wasn't it just yesterday that I was in his place?
